Category Storytelling

As a storyteller, who specialises in true-life tales, I have performed in a wide variety of venues. These include theatres, art galleries, libraries, bookshops, cafes – anywhere that people gather to hear stories.

In my early work, my mentor was international storyteller and author Cat Weatherill. She first invited me to perform in one of her successful Tell Me On A Sunday shows at The Ikon Gallery, Birmingham. I appeared there on a regular basis and later joined a troupe of true-life tellers Flashlight Storytellers. From 2014 – 2016, we performed at a variety of storytelling events in the West Midlands, introducing the ‘true-life storytelling’ model to the circuit. Our inspiration was the style of the iconic show The Moth in New York. This is a legendary event which celebrates the craft of “true stories told live”.

Arts Council funded projects have further enabled me to run Workshops in Storytelling. These include my time as Writer/Storyteller in Residence for the Voices from the Ashes project, in Birmingham. I have also worked as project assistant to Cat Weatherill for her monthly Mee Club in Coventry. There, I regularly performed as one of the guest storytellers, and hosted a couple of shows at The Herbert Art Gallery.

I am now invited to perform as a guest storyteller in spoken word gigs all over the Midlands. My repertoire contains comic & poignant stories that last between 7 – 10 mins. The next step is to create my own show.
